Change and Problem Paradox

There is whole new industry called the change industry. Gurus, consultants and coaches like myself preach certain mechanism to bring about positive change in some area of life. Mind you, these are well intended people and some of the great people, some of whom I have a great pleasure of working with.  However to be really honest with you  it is an amazing industry, it is like self-perpetuating never ending revolving door,  where people never get the result they really want and keep coming back for more.  Look at fitness and diet industry for instance.

Unfortunately a great percentage of changes that people desire are initiated under wrong or ill informed premise.  There are lots of books than one could really count and read, there is tons of information online. There are as many experts on any subject as there are opinions.

Although I accept and respect all the valid credentials of some of the so called experts.  I take issue with lack of ecological balance when setting out to help someone change any area of their life without realizing that every change brings with it some problems.

These two concepts of changing and not having problems are paradoxical .  The ecological balance of change is not taken into account by most so called experts.   Every time we encounter a problem we seek to change something to the point where we are comfortable. However the truth is change inherently brings with it some problems.  No wonder most people hate change, because subconsciously at a much deeper level we know change means we have to start all over, give up comfort, relearn, adopt, make new associations etc.

What makes change last long is not the looks and the charisma and the status of the Guru, rather the ecological balance within one's life.   It is us who ultimately makes the shift and change.  The ecological balance for change must have  4" P" principle.

Ask yourself these questions. Is the change I am seeking, driven by my own Principles? Do I own the Purpose as to why  I want  the change?  Am I passionate enough to change? Do I have a long term Perspective to live with the consequence of the actions I have enacted.

If the answer is a resounding yes to all four then the change will be long lasting , otherwise we fall back in the old behaviors patterns that were causing us frustration in the first place.

So remember for any change to be long lasting it must have the 4Ps. 1.Founded in Principle, 2. Purpose, owning the purpose. 3. Means enough that your are Passionate about it and follow through. 4. You have a long term Perspective of the outcomes.

Until Next Blog Post.
