What is Success?

Success is not one thing it is many things to many people. Human life has several stages, success at each age has a different association to it. For example for a year and a few months old baby it is being able to roll on her back and be able to crawl, later on walking is considered success and talking and soon each milestone that is reached in life is considered as a success.

In the world of professional development it is different for each field, in sports it is ultimate performance relative to the team the athlete is competing against,  in economics it might be coming up with an equation to solve certain major world crisis, such as hunger, famine and other economic issues, in the scientific realm reducing  the target CO2 consumption level and saving environment may be considered a  success. In the world of business ascertaining certain degree of business fluidity and boosting profits and market share is considered success. In medical field  any number of breakthroughs could signal success. Although most successes are celebrated at the end point, in and of itself success is not a statistic snap shot in time, rather it is continuum.

In my line of work as coach and mentor I  am humbled by the sheer fast diversity of human soul and the deep yarn for it manifesting and contributing to humanity.

So I have a very clear  definition for success. It is a journey not an end to a means. In the popular culture Success is associated with material goods and money. I rather think of those outwardly glamours at  very best as an association to success and not even a measure of success, for someone could inherit a bunch of money and that can't constitute success. Therefore ......

"Success is  a journey towards realization of
 Exceptional Performances and Results
Across all Areas of Life, with
 Clarity  and maturity of  Purpose
While having
Grace, Humility and balance
Resulting in
 Abundance of  Meaning Impact
Beyond the Confines of self" "

Overall at the end when everything is said and done in the chapters of the book of our lives, and ultimately the ultimate success is felt by the degree to which we belief, we had a meaningful life and that we were able to contribute beyond ourselves. The Steve Jobs and Alexander Graham Bells and Henry Fords of the world they were not full of success they were full of passion and to that extend they lived, yet the society calls them successful as if they were bags filled with success.  Living our life and creating great meaning and impact with grace humility and maturity of purpose is the ultimate success. Now that is my definition of it and there could be in excess of 7 billion definitions. The important thing is to realize what it really means to us in absence of superficial demands of ego and social pressures?  Because it is empowering to resist that which is popular yet dis-empowering.

It is imperative to decipher the true meaning of success from the socially ascribed notions and association to success and distinctly understand the difference between an association to an idea vs the idea itself.  Success is not an association it is journey with certain state of mind towards a worldly objective with almost certain degree of obsession.

If you want to define your success and  you are allowed to do that by the way, you need to find out your deepest obsession about an idea. The rest will be printed in history books.
What is your definition of it?
